Original contemporary painting inspired by the cliffs of Étretat. A boat suspended in the sky, between dream, memory, and magical realism. Tempera and acrylic on canvas, 50 × 35 cm. A boat laden with sailors glides through the night sky above the cliffs of Étretat. From its sides escape birds of light that descend toward the earth like a shower of stars. This timeless motif of the miraculous catch of fish reappears in the work of Olga Kataeva-Rochford. This painting was born from the memory of one of the artist's first trips to France. The discovery of Étretat, whose cliffs have inspired so many painters, left a lasting imprint on her imagination. Years later, this landscape reappears transformed by memory and dreams.

White arches emerge from the darkness like gateways to another world. Above them floats an impossible vessel, defying the laws of gravity. The scene evokes maritime tales, mystical visions, and the theme of the miraculous catch of fish, revisited here in a poetic form: it is no longer fish rising from the depths, but birds and constellations descending from the sky.

Created in tempera and acrylic on canvas, the work displays a palette of deep and luminous blues. The successive layers of paint create a rich, almost mineral texture, reminiscent of ancient frescoes and icons while maintaining a resolutely contemporary sensibility.

Through Celestial Boat , Olga Kataeva-Rochford continues her exploration of the themes that run through her work: travel, flight, the relationship between man and nature, and those moments when reality seems to open onto the invisible.

A work between sea, sky and imagination

At the crossroads of magical realism, symbolism, and contemporary landscape, Celestial Boat invites silent contemplation. This original work will naturally find its place in a collection attuned to poetic universes, transfigured landscapes, and narratives where memory, dream, and spirituality converge.
