"Granville. Two bisquines"
Tempera on canvas
50 × 70 cm, 2024
I wanted to paint these two bisquines as a vision rather than a precise seascape — something a sailor might see when the world around him becomes almost weightless.
The sea and sky merge in a calm, silvery-grey atmosphere, revealing only the boats and their sails. Their light seems to emanate from within, as if each vessel carried its own small source of orientation.
There is a particular kind of freedom in this image: the freedom to move forward without needing to know exactly what lies beyond the horizon. Not certainty about the destination, but an unwavering confidence in one's path.
The pale sails rise, almost weightless, against a serene background. Everything is reduced to a few essential elements: water, wind, light, and the instinct to keep moving forward.
For me, this is what makes this image look less like a scene and more like a state of mind: the serene confidence of following one's own path.
Here I have combined collage, tempera and vinyl to evoke a feeling of nostalgic serenity and timeless grace.
This work might appeal to collectors interested in contemporary seascape painting, maritime art, figurative painting, poetic landscapes, sailboats, and works exploring light, movement, freedom, inner compass, and human resilience.
