This painting is inspired by the major port cities of the Seine: Le Havre, Paris, and Rouen. These three cities are part of HAROPA PORT (an acronym composed of the first letters of Le Havre, Rouen, and Paris), the major river-maritime port of the Seine axis.
Each port is personified by a female allegory in 18th-century attire and wearing a frigate headdress. The accessories and details evoke the identity of each city: transatlantic liners for Le Havre; an old city map, fleur-de-lis, and coat of arms for Paris; the Grande Armada for Rouen; and, of course, Flaubert, who chose this city as the setting for "Madame Bovary."
This artwork can be hung on the wall or placed on the floor as a screen. Designed and created for the Paris Maritime exhibition at the Ô Large gallery in Paris.
